Visualization Techniques
Visualization is commonly used as a goal-setting and mental-rehearsal practice: you imagine a scene in detail before you live it. These five techniques cover most of what guided visualization audio does.
1. Scene rehearsal
Choose one specific moment — walking into the interview, standing on the first tee, opening the front door of the new flat — and run it in detail, start to finish.
2. First-person imagery
Imagine the scene through your own eyes rather than watching yourself from outside. Performers often find the first-person view more useful for preparation.
3. Sensory detail
Add sound, temperature, texture and pace. Detail is what makes the rehearsal feel rehearsed.
4. Process, not just outcome
Rehearse the steps as well as the trophy: the practice sessions, the difficult call, the recovery after a mistake.
5. Pre-sleep practice
Many people find a short session before sleep easiest to sustain, because the setting is quiet and already part of the routine.
